Although you might not be able to be an all-the-time volunteer,
there are so many "occasional' opportunities to help the Capital Chapter!

First, we'd like to start a list of folks who would like to volunteer for occasional duties. Once we have a list, we can send out email only to volunteers for specific jobs. If you are able to help at that time, GREAT! Just respond to the email and we'll work out the details with you. If you aren't able to help at the time, you can just wait for us to send out email at another time. Send an email and we'll add you to the volunteers' list: capitalnaafa@cox.net

Make Copies & Deliver Them

We need copies made of the newsletter or factsheets. After they are copied, we need them dropped off to be stamped and mailed. If you have access to a copier and can help out, we will email you the items we need copied and arrange to have them delivered or picked up.

Writing
Our membership newsletter needs people to write the copy. This multi-page newsletter contains articles submitted by members and guests of the Capital Chapter of NAAFA and all copy is reviewed before publication. If you can write, you could be a great help to us. This is one task that can be done from home and emailed to the editor. We need articles on fat acceptance, fat activism, fat events and socials, or anything that you think might be of interest to DC/MD/VA NAAFA members.

Set Up For An Event

There is always a little bit of decoration or arranging needed about an hour before an event starts. Sometimes we need the arrangement of tables inspected, or review the location of food tables with hotel staff or the music equipment with the DJ. We need help setting up the reception desk. If the event is a picnic or pool party, we need help unloading supplies, food and soda from the vehicles.

Clean Up After An Event
There is always a little bit of clean up after an event. We might need help hauling decorations and supplies back to our vehicles or rooms. We sometimes need stuff packed up. Or leftover sodas need to be hauled and stored.

Transportation
Sometimes there is just entirely too much stuff! So we need help transporting all this stuff from one place to another. We might need you to pick it up and bring it to us. Or we might need you to meet us and haul the stuff for us. We'll let everyone know what we need picked up, where it's located, where we need it delivered and when it's needed. Very rarely do we transport stuff that doesn't fit in the trunk or backseat of a car. What we don't do is arrange the transportation of people. There are too many variables so we cannot help people find rides.

Cooking

We always need barbeque chefs at picnics and summer pool parties. We furnish the supplies and food, you apply your cooking skills. Occasionally, we need baked goods or similar snacks brought in for an event. If you enjoy cooking or baking, or even if you enjoy food shopping, we need your help.

Event Cakes

We supply a cake at just about every event. If you live near a bakery or supermarket with a bakery, we need cakes ordered, picked up and delivered to the event location. Sometimes we just need someone to pick up and deliver the cake on the way to the event. The Chapter will always reimburse the cost of the cake the same day you pick it up.

Digital Photographers

You might have noticed that we have pictures from most of our events. If you have a digital camera and know how to email photos, we need your help! We don't post pictures of people who do not want their pictures posted. So, we always ask each person before we take pictures at an event. We need color photos in jpg, tif or bmp format within approximately 36 hours after an event. Email me if you are planning on attending an event and can take pictures: capitalnaafa@cox.net

Event Announcements and Notices

First, and easiest, invite everyone you know to Capital NAAFA events and send them to this website. 
Secondly, We can always use lots of help with placing announcements and notices of upcoming events online and in daily, weekly or monthly newspapers, magazines or television community events listings. If you know of any free space available for these postings or can get them posted for the chapter, it would be greatly appreciated. For the information we need posted, please contact: capitalnaafa@

Host or Hostess
If you are a sociable, friendly person, everyone needs you! The chapter needs people to greet guests as they arrive, introduce them to others and get them settled in. We want to make sure people aren't sitting in a corner all alone, not knowing anyone else in the room. It's always difficult to go to a social event and it appears that everyone knows everyone else and you don't know anyone at all! So, let's make each and every person feel welcome and ensure that although they might have arrived as a stranger, they are leaving as a friend.

Raffle Ticket Sales
Usually raffle tickets are sold the first hour and half of an event. If you are interested in fundraising for the chapter, this might be the job for you!
